Aqueous Parts Washers
Build-All manufactures heavy-duty aqueous parts washers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin — recirculating, platform-agitation, sink-on-drum, and rinse-tank models. Aqueous washers clean with heated water and detergent instead of petroleum solvent, which means low VOCs, no flash point to manage, and no solvent to store or dispose of.

When an aqueous parts washer is the right choice. Aqueous cleaning wins in three situations. First, when air permits or VOC limits make solvent use expensive or impractical — water-based chemistry keeps you well clear of emissions thresholds. Second, when operator safety drives the decision: no solvent vapor, no flammable liquid in the shop, and an easier conversation with your insurance carrier. Third, when you are cleaning heavy grease, carbon, or baked-on soils — heated aqueous solution attacks those far better than room-temperature solvent.
Solvent still has the edge on precision parts that cannot tolerate water, on painted or unsealed surfaces, and where parts must come out bone dry with no rinse step. If you are weighing the two, our solvent vs. aqueous parts washer comparison lays out the trade-offs side by side.
Heated vs. unheated aqueous washers. Aqueous detergents do most of their work between 120°F and 160°F. An unheated tank will clean light oils, but for grease and carbon the heater is not optional — it is the whole mechanism. Our heated units use either an immersion element in the tank or a drop-in drum heater on sink-on-drum models. Budget for heat-up time in the first cycle of the day; most shops put the unit on a timer.
Platform agitation. Parts sit on a steel platform that oscillates through the heated bath, so nobody scrubs anything. This is the right answer for complex castings, blind holes, and any part where hand-brushing would take real labor. See the 150-gallon aqueous platform-agitation washer running.
Sink-on-drum. A stainless sink mounts directly on a standard drum, so the drum is the reservoir. Smallest footprint, lowest entry cost, and the easiest to change out when the solution is spent. Watch a sink-on-drum unit in use.
Rinse tanks and flow-through brush units. The stainless SSRTFB with heater and recirculating pump pairs a wash station with a rinse stage, which matters when residual detergent would interfere with the next operation — painting, plating, or assembly.
Why stainless steel matters more with aqueous. Heated water and alkaline detergent are hard on painted steel over time. Our aqueous units are available in stainless for exactly this reason. If you run heated chemistry every day, stainless is not a luxury — it is what keeps the tank from being the first thing that fails.
Keep clean parts from flash rusting. This is the part most shops learn the hard way. Aqueous cleaning strips the oil film that was protecting the metal, and a freshly washed steel part left on a bench can show surface rust the same day — faster in a humid plant. Plan corrosion protection as part of the process, not as an afterthought. Our sister company Solvent Recycling Systems distributes Cortec VpCI corrosion inhibitors — rust-preventative liquids and VpCI packaging that hold parts between the washer and the next operation. Build-All also stocks rust prevention products directly.
Consumables and replacement parts. Every aqueous washer eventually needs aqueous pumps, filtration, and water-based cleaning chemistry. We stock all of it, including the low-foaming aqueous degreaser formulated for recirculating and jet-spray units.
Built in Milwaukee, and built to order. Build-All has manufactured parts washing equipment in Milwaukee for over 50 years. If the tank size, platform dimensions, or heater capacity you need is not in the catalog, we build it — see custom parts washers or tell us what you need to clean. New to this? Our parts washer buying guide walks through sizing, and owning vs. renting covers why buying usually beats a service contract.
